Dealership IT Services in Indianapolis, Where the Interstates Meet

Indiana adopted “The Crossroads of America” as its state motto back in 1937, and Indianapolis is the crossing. I-65, I-69, I-70 and I-74 all meet the I-465 loop around the city. That’s handy if you sell trucks. It also means a dealer group here can spread its rooftops in every direction and still call itself local.

Spread-out stores are where IT gets expensive. A store on US 31 in Greenwood and another up in Noblesville sit on opposite sides of the metro, and one IT person can’t be in both on a Tuesday morning. The fix isn’t more driving. It’s every store set up the same way, so most problems get solved from wherever the technician already is.

We’ve worked only with automotive and heavy truck dealerships since 1997, and we work with client dealerships in the Indianapolis metro today. This page belongs to our metro-by-metro dealership IT pages, and everything on it is about Marion County and the counties that ring it.

  • Remote firstWe fix most problems by phone or remote session, so nobody has to fight 465 traffic before your store gets help.
  • Field dispatch when it needs handsWhen something physical breaks, like the switch behind the parts counter, or you’re moving into a bigger building in Fishers, we send a technician.
  • Security that never logs off24/7 security monitoring from a live, US-based team. That team doesn’t wait for anyone to call.

As for the help desk, your Indianapolis stores reach a live technician Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern. Here those are the same clock. After hours, our dealership help desk plans include callbacks, onsite visits are included on our Full Service plan, and a dealership IT support SLA is the place to get any provider’s response targets in writing.

What Changes When an Indianapolis Group Has Stores on Central Time?

Indianapolis runs on Eastern time, but 12 Indiana counties, including the ones around Gary and Evansville, run on Central. A group with stores on both sides of that line has two clocks inside one network, and anything that runs on a schedule has to know which clock it’s on.

The state’s own time zone FAQ lists them, six in the northwest corner near Chicago and six in the southwest along the Ohio River, and since 2006 every county has observed daylight saving time. So the hour between them never goes away. Here’s where it shows up.

At the storeAcross two clocksWho feels itWhat keeps it straight
Phone menusIf the after-hours greeting is set once for the whole group on Eastern time, it can start playing at an Evansville store an hour before that store closes.Sales and serviceCall schedules set per store, in that store’s own time zone.
Time clocks and payrollA punch stamped in the wrong zone moves a whole shift by an hour, and the overtime math moves with it.Payroll and every hourly employeeClocks and payroll set store by store, then checked against one real punch.
Appointment remindersA reminder tool that assumes Eastern for every rooftop can text a Merrillville customer the wrong time.ServiceScheduling and texting tools set to each store’s zone, not the group’s.
Updates and backupsA window set for 10 p.m. Eastern starts at 9 p.m. Central, maybe while a late service shift is still working.Whoever is working lateMaintenance windows booked per site.
Security logsWhen each site logs its own local time, a one-hour offset can scramble the order of events during an investigation. The security teamEvery device logs in one standard time, and reports convert it.
Your Helion help deskWeekday live hours follow each store’s own clock, so a store on Central time gets its own 8 to 5.Every storeLive Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern, with after-hours callbacks.

None of that is hard to fix. It’s just easy to miss, because everything looks fine from an Indianapolis desk. Buying a store in Lake County or Vanderburgh County? Ask what time its phones think it is. The rest of what to look at before closing is in our dealership acquisition IT guide.

Stores up near Gary and Hammond also share a market with Chicago. Our Chicago dealership IT page sets Illinois and Indiana rules side by side for that corner of the state.

One Setup From Carmel to Greenwood

Say your group has a store in Carmel, one on the east side off Shadeland and one down in Greenwood. Odds are each closet was wired by whoever was around the year it opened, and that’s why the same printer problem gets fixed three different ways.

So the first thing we do is make the three stores match. We take over management of every computer, switch and firewall, label what’s in each closet, and put the gear on battery backup, because an Indiana thunderstorm will flicker the power at the worst possible moment. A second internet line from a different carrier comes with our dealership network services and takes over by itself if the main one goes down. Once the logins, firewall rules and dealership phone system match at every rooftop, the tech who sorted out Carmel’s printer this morning can sort out Greenwood’s this afternoon from the same chair.

Not everything can be fixed from a chair, of course. When someone has to be in the building, we aim to be there the same day for an emergency and within two business days for everything else, and our guide to onsite vs remote IT support explains who does what.

If you already run several rooftops, the dealer groups page shows what one team across all of them looks like.

Dealership Cybersecurity in Indianapolis

Indiana’s consumer privacy law took effect on January 1, 2026. Most dealers won’t feel it directly, since the Indiana Consumer Data Protection Act doesn’t apply to financial institutions or data covered by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and that federal law is why dealers follow the FTC Safeguards Rule in the first place. The state’s breach law is a different story. Under Indiana Code 24-4.9, affected customers have to hear about a breach without unreasonable delay and no later than 45 days after it’s discovered, and the Indiana Attorney General has to be told too. Our dealership privacy laws by state guide keeps track of all of it.

A 45-day clock only starts once somebody notices. Our dealership cybersecurity puts a live, US-based security operations center on your network through managed detection and response, with endpoint detection and response on every computer and multi-factor sign-in on email and remote access.

Most of the rest comes down to staff. Our security awareness training teaches people to spot a fake invoice or a phony caller, and on our side, we verify everyone who calls our help desk before we touch an account. Backups matter too, and our dealership backup and disaster recovery keeps tested copies of your data out of an attacker’s reach.

Where We Work Around Indianapolis

Indiana had 403 franchised new-car dealerships in 2025, according to NADA Data 2025. Around Indianapolis you’ll find them on roads like US 31 south through Greenwood, East Washington Street and Shadeland Avenue on the east side, and Pike Plaza Road up on the northwest side. Several sizable dealer groups are headquartered in the metro as well.

Freight is big business here. FedEx runs its second-largest cargo hub at the Indianapolis airport, and four interstates carry trucks past the city every day. Statewide, franchised dealers have the Automobile Dealers Association of Indiana, and stories from groups that switched to us are in Helion’s dealership case studies.

Does Helion Technologies offer dealership IT services in Indianapolis?
Yes, for automotive and heavy truck dealerships across Indianapolis and Central Indiana, with managed IT, cybersecurity, Tekion enablement, backup and recovery, and FTC Safeguards compliance. We work with client dealerships in the Indianapolis metro today. During live support hours, a support agent answers in 82 seconds on average.
What do managed IT services in Indianapolis cost a dealership?
There’s no rate card, because the price depends on how many stores you run and which services you pick. One yardstick: network and systems administrators in the Indianapolis metro averaged $94,910 a year in May 2025, per the BLS wage estimates, and that buys one person with one set of hands. The dealership IT support cost guide explains what moves the number, and you can request a price quote for your own stores.
One of our stores is on Central time. Which hours apply to it?
Its own, on weekdays. Live support runs Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, so a store in Evansville or Merrillville reaches a live technician from 8 to 5 Central. Saturday live hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern for every store, and outside live hours we call you back on weekday mornings and evenings.
Does Helion have an office in Indianapolis?
No. Helion Technologies is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, and supports Indianapolis-area stores remotely, with field technicians dispatched when a job needs someone on site. Your Indianapolis stores reach a live technician Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern.
Does Indiana’s new privacy law apply to our dealership?
Probably not to the dealership as a whole, though your attorney makes that call. The Indiana Consumer Data Protection Act, in force since January 1, 2026, doesn’t apply to financial institutions or data covered by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. Indiana’s breach notice law still applies, with its 45-day deadline. The FTC Safeguards Rule checklist covers the federal side that does most of the work.
We already have an IT person. Do we have to replace them?
No. Keep them. With co-managed IT, your IT person keeps the passwords, the vendor relationships and the final say, while we add the help desk, a co-managed security operations center and extra hands for the projects that never make it to the top of one person’s list. The co-managed IT responsibility matrix shows who owns what.
Do you support heavy truck dealerships around Indianapolis?
We do, and truck stores are a big part of our work. We support Karmak and Procede shops, parts counters along the interstates and branches in farm country where internet choices are few. See truck dealership branch IT support, rural truck dealership internet and heavy truck dealership cybersecurity.
