Dealership IT Services in Columbus, Built for a Metro That Keeps Growing
The Columbus metro added more than 21,000 people in 2025 and reached 2,242,028, according to new Census estimates reported by WOSU. Only two Midwest metros made the national top 15 for growth, and Indianapolis was the other one. More people means more cars sold, service lanes booked a week out and, sooner or later, more rooftops.
The daily work stays the same. A group with a store on Sawmill Road in Dublin, another out on Morse Road toward Easton and a used lot down in Grove City still needs one DMS, one phone system and one set of logins that behave the same way at every location. Easy to write down. Harder to pull off with one IT person working the Outerbelt at rush hour.
We’ve been doing this since 1997, and we work with client dealerships in the Columbus metro today. Helion Technologies supports automotive and heavy truck dealerships and nobody else, and this page belongs to our city-by-city dealership IT pages. What follows is specific to Columbus and the counties around it.
- Remote firstMost tickets close by phone or remote session, so a backup on I-270 never decides how long a store stays down.
- On site when it needs handsField technicians are dispatched for a dead switch, new cabling or a new rooftop opening up in Delaware County.
- Watched around the clockSecurity support runs 24/7, with live, US-based analysts who step in the moment they see signs of an attack.
We’re in the same time zone, too. Our dealership help desk works from Baltimore, and your Columbus stores reach a live technician Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern. After-hours callbacks come with our help desk plans, and onsite visits are included on our Full Service plan. Comparing us with another provider? Ask both for the help desk metrics a dealer principal should see and put the answers side by side.
Where Central Ohio Is Growing, and What It Means at the Store
A chip plant never walks into a showroom, but the electricians building it, the engineers hired to run it and the families who move out to New Albany to be near it all end up in somebody’s service lane. Four corridors are doing most of the adding right now. Here they are, with what each one tends to ask of a dealership’s IT.
| Corridor | What’s growing | Timing | At the store |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Albany and Licking County | Intel’s chip plant in New Albany, beside data centers run by Google, Meta and Amazon Web ServicesSlower than planned | Intel now expects its first two Ohio plants in 2030 and 2031 | Construction crews and new hires need trucks and service appointments long before a plant opens. Size the service drive’s network and phones for the volume before you add bays. |
| Marysville and Union County | Honda’s $700 million retooling of its Marysville and East Liberty auto plants and its Anna engine plant into an electric vehicle hubUnder way | Announced October 2022 | EV service adds chargers and diagnostic equipment that live on the store network. Give them their own segment, away from the DMS and the F&I office. |
| Rickenbacker and Groveport | Rickenbacker Inland Port, with a cargo airport, a Norfolk Southern intermodal terminal and Foreign-Trade Zone 138Freight hub | The rail terminal opened in 2008 | Truck dealers here open the parts counter early and send service trucks out with laptops. Mobile devices need the same security as the main store. |
| Delaware County and Polaris | The fastest-growing county in Ohio in the 2020 census, along I-71 and US 23 north of the cityGrowing | 2010 to 2020 census | New neighborhoods bring new rooftops and buy-sells. Each one should open on the group’s network design, not on whatever the last owner left behind. |
Look down the last column and you’ll see it isn’t asking you to buy fancier technology. It’s asking you to have one standard ready before the next store, bay or branch shows up, because growth on a deadline is how a group ends up with five rooftops and five different networks, and somebody has to untangle them later. A complimentary IT and cybersecurity assessment puts your current setup on paper first.
If you run trucks out of Rickenbacker, start with IT support for remote truck dealership branches and networking a multi-branch truck dealership. If you’re selling more EVs in Marysville or Delaware, that same segmented network is what keeps the chargers away from customer data.
The Numbers Behind the Help Desk

Dealership Cybersecurity in Columbus
Ohio gives dealers a reason to write their security down. The Ohio Data Protection Act, passed as Senate Bill 220 and in force since November 2, 2018, offers an affirmative defense to a business sued over a breach if it kept a written cybersecurity program that reasonably conforms to a recognized framework, and R.C. 1354.03 lists Title V of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the law behind the FTC Safeguards Rule. So the program you already owe the FTC can count twice. Our guide to the Ohio Data Protection Act for auto and truck dealerships has the details.
Discipline on the phone matters as much. Two callers once told our help desk they worked at a dealership. They worked for a vendor instead, one the store had approved for a single accounting job and one that let several of its own people share a login. Neither got anywhere. We told the dealership, handed over the call recordings, and the vendor was replaced. Since November 2023 we’ve verified every caller, usually with a one-time code sent to the email or mobile number already on their record, and our page on help desk caller verification explains how.
The attacks aren’t local. CDK Global’s 2024 survey of dealers found that 35% had a cyberattack or incident that year, and 92% of those said it did real financial or operational damage. Our dealership cybersecurity work puts a live, US-based security operations center on your network through managed detection and response, with advanced endpoint detection and response on every computer and multi-factor authentication on email and remote access. Microsoft 365 security locks down the inbox, and security awareness training teaches everyone with a login to spot a fake call.
One more leak is easy to miss. A business office manager pastes a customer’s details into a free chatbot to clean up a letter. Managed AI gives staff a private, governed workspace instead.

Inside the Outerbelt and Well Past It
Ask a dealer principal here how the group got to four or five stores and you’ll often hear the same story, which starts with one rooftop inside I-270 and then a call from an owner in Delaware or Newark who’s ready to sell. Nobody plans the IT for that call. The keys change hands on a Friday, and on Monday your controller is staring at a network closet full of gear with no labels, a firewall whose password left with the last office manager, and a phone system that only one person ever really understood.
We’d rather you skip that Monday. Every store gets the same network design, the same firewall rules, the same dealership phone system and one set of logins, so a sales manager who moves from Westerville to Pickerington sits down and gets to work. A second internet line from a different carrier takes over on its own if the first one drops, as part of our dealership network services, and backup and disaster recovery for dealerships keeps tested copies of your data well away from Central Ohio.
Looking at a store right now? Dealership acquisition IT integration covers what to check before you close, and our dealer groups page shows how one team looks after every rooftop you own.

Where We Work Around Columbus
Ohio has 714 franchised new-car dealers, according to NADA Data 2025, and a good share of them sit in and around Columbus. You know the stretches. There’s Sawmill Road in Dublin, Morse Road out toward Easton, the stores off I-270 in Hilliard and Grove City, and Polaris up I-71, with more in Delaware, Marysville, Newark and Lancaster. Truck dealers cluster where I-70 and I-71 meet the freight yards south of town. The Ohio Automobile Dealers Association is based in Dublin, a few minutes off I-270.
One technician can only stand in one building at a time, and around Columbus the next building might be on the far side of the Outerbelt. A team fixes that. Stories from groups that made the switch are in Helion’s dealership case studies.
