Dealership IT Services in Pittsburgh, Without Hiring a Whole IT Department

Most Pittsburgh dealers we talk to have the same person in mind when IT comes up. Maybe it’s a sharp service writer who got good with computers, or the one IT manager who covers the store on Route 22 and the one up on McKnight Road and answers texts at their kid’s soccer game. Things work because that person works. Until they take a week off.

We support Pittsburgh dealerships remotely, with field technicians sent out when a job needs hands, and we already work with client dealerships in the Philadelphia and Columbus metros. Helion Technologies has worked only for automotive and heavy truck dealerships since 1997.

This page is part of our dealership IT pages for each metro we write about, and it’s about what changes for stores in Allegheny, Butler, Westmoreland and Washington counties.

  • Remote firstMost tickets close over the phone or a remote session, so a backup at the Fort Pitt Tunnel never decides how long a store waits.
  • Field dispatch when it needs handsA technician goes out for a dead switch, new cabling in the service drive or a store moving to a bigger lot in Butler County.
  • Security that doesn’t clock outSecurity support runs 24/7, with live, US-based analysts who step in the moment they see signs of an attack.

Here’s when our dealership help desk picks up. Your Pittsburgh stores reach a live technician Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern. After-hours callbacks come with our help desk plans, and onsite visits are included on our Full Service plan. Whoever you end up talking to, get the targets written into a dealership IT support SLA before you sign.

Three Rivers, a Few Tunnels and One Way of Running Every Store

On a map, a store in Monroeville and one in Robinson Township don’t look far apart. Then you try to get from one to the other at 4:30 on a Thursday, through the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and over a river or two, and the map stops meaning much. Anyone who has done it knows.

So we set stores up to need the drive as rarely as possible. Every computer, switch and firewall is managed remotely, every closet is documented, and a second internet line from a different carrier takes over on its own when the first one drops, as part of our dealership network services. Same logins at every rooftop, same dealership phone system, same rules on the firewall.

When something does need a person in the building, a field technician goes. Our target is the same day for an emergency and within two business days otherwise, and our guide to onsite vs remote IT support shows how the two split the work.

What One IT Hire Costs a Pittsburgh Dealership

“Why not just hire someone?” is a fair question, and it deserves real numbers. These are average yearly pay figures for the Pittsburgh metro from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, for the jobs a dealership’s IT actually breaks into. Pay only. No benefits, no payroll tax and no recruiter.

Add up the first three rows and you’re at $257,640 a year in average pay, and that’s three people, not one. The BLS May 2025 wage estimates for the Pittsburgh metro also count only about 1,570 network and computer systems administrators in the whole region, and you’d be competing with its hospitals, banks and universities to hire one. We don’t publish a rate card, so request a price quote and lay it next to that number.

Already have someone good? Keep them. Co-managed IT puts a team behind your IT manager instead of replacing them, and the dealership IT manager job description shows what the role really takes. For the full side-by-side, read in-house vs managed IT for dealerships.

Dealership Cybersecurity in Pittsburgh

Pennsylvania still doesn’t have a broad consumer privacy law. House Bill 78 passed the state House in October 2025 and a Senate committee sent an amended version to the floor in June 2026, but there’s been no final Senate vote, according to the General Assembly’s bill history. What a Pittsburgh store answers to today is the FTC Safeguards Rule and the state’s breach notice law, which since September 2024 has meant telling the attorney general at the same time as your customers once a breach reaches more than 500 Pennsylvanians. Our Philadelphia dealership IT page goes through those 2024 changes line by line.

The bigger cost is the downtime. CDK Global’s 2023 study of dealerships put the average downtime after a cyberattack at 3.4 weeks, which is most of a month of deals written on paper. Weeks of it. Our dealership cybersecurity puts a live, US-based security operations center on your network through managed detection and response, with endpoint detection and response on every computer and multi-factor sign-in on email and remote access.

People are the other half of it. Security awareness training teaches everyone with a login what a fake invoice or a fake caller sounds like, and we check the identity of every caller to our own help desk before we touch an account. Backup and disaster recovery for dealerships keeps tested copies of your data somewhere an attacker can’t reach.

And a salesperson pasting a customer’s details into a free chatbot is a leak too. Managed AI gives staff a private, governed place to do that work instead.

Where We Work Around Pittsburgh

Pennsylvania has 861 franchised new-car dealers, according to NADA Data 2025, and a big share of the western ones sit along a few roads you already know. There’s William Penn Highway through Monroeville, Route 19 up through Wexford and Cranberry Township, and McKnight Road in the North Hills, with the truck dealers closer to the interstates and the industrial parks. Busy roads, all of them. Several sizable dealer groups call this region home, too.

Dealers here have a strong local voice in the Greater Pittsburgh Automobile Dealers Association, which puts on the Pittsburgh International Auto Show downtown each winter, and statewide the Pennsylvania Automotive Association speaks for car and truck dealers from Harrisburg. Stories from groups that switched to us are in Helion’s dealership case studies.

Does Helion Technologies offer dealership IT services in Pittsburgh?
Yes, for automotive and heavy truck dealerships across Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania, with managed IT, cybersecurity, Tekion enablement, backup and recovery, and FTC Safeguards compliance. We support Pittsburgh stores remotely, with field technicians sent out when a job needs hands. During live support hours, a support agent answers in 82 seconds on average.
What do managed IT services in Pittsburgh cost a dealership?
It depends on how many stores you run and which services you pick, so there’s no rate card on our site. A useful yardstick is what hiring would cost: Pittsburgh’s average pay for a network and systems administrator alone was $86,750 in May 2025, per the BLS. Our dealership IT support cost guide shows what drives the price, and you can request a price quote for your own stores.
Who should be our Qualified Individual under the FTC Safeguards Rule?
One named person who oversees your written security program, and the rule lets that person work for a service provider as long as the dealership keeps responsibility and a senior member of its staff oversees them. Plenty of stores give the job to a controller or a GM who already has a full plate. Our post on why the GLBA requires a Qualified Individual explains the role, and the FTC Safeguards Rule checklist covers the rest.
Does Helion have an office in Pittsburgh?
No. Helion Technologies is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, and supports Pittsburgh-area stores remotely, with field technicians dispatched when a job needs someone on site. Your Pittsburgh stores reach a live technician Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern.
Has Pennsylvania passed its consumer privacy bill yet?
Not as of our last update. House Bill 78 passed the state House 127 to 76 in October 2025, and a Senate committee reported an amended version in June 2026, but the full Senate hasn’t voted on it. Until something passes, the FTC Safeguards Rule and Pennsylvania’s breach notice law are the rules to meet. Dealership privacy laws by state tracks where each state stands, and your attorney makes the final call.
Our IT manager is good. Where does Helion fit?
Right behind them. With co-managed IT, your IT manager keeps the keys, the vendor relationships and the final say, and we add the help desk, a co-managed security operations center and extra hands for the projects one person can’t get to. They stay in charge. They just aren’t the only one who knows where everything is. The co-managed IT responsibility matrix spells out who owns what.
Do you support heavy truck dealerships around Pittsburgh?
We do, and truck stores have been part of our work for years. We support Karmak and Procede shops, early parts counters and the branch out past Butler where the internet options are thin. Our pages on truck dealership branch IT support and rural truck dealership internet cover both, and heavy truck dealership cybersecurity covers the security side.
