What Dealership IT Services in Dallas Have to Cover
A Dallas dealership is a spread-out business. The showroom sits on one frontage road, the body shop on another, and the group’s next rooftop might be forty minutes up the Tollway in Frisco or an hour west in Fort Worth. Same DMS. Same phones. And one network has to hold all of it together while the sales floor is trying to close deals.
That’s our whole job. Helion Technologies has worked only with automotive and heavy truck dealerships since 1997, and this page is part of our dealership IT services by location hub. It covers what’s specific to North Texas.
- Remote firstMost tickets close by phone or remote session, so nobody waits on Central Expressway traffic.
- On site when it needs handsField technicians go out for a dead switch, new cabling or a rooftop going live.
- Watched around the clockNetworks, servers and security alerts are monitored 24/7 by a US-based team.
Live help runs 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Central, Monday through Saturday. So a service advisor opening the drive at 6:30 on a Saturday morning in Plano gets a person on the phone, and after-hours calls, weekend coverage and field dispatch all sit inside the monthly number instead of showing up later as separate invoices. No meter running.
Day to day, that’s managed IT support for dealerships. Got an IT manager already? Groups with their own staff use co-managed IT and keep that person in charge.

John Eagle Auto Group Put Ten Texas Stores on One Network
Here’s a Texas example. John Eagle Auto Group had ten stores across the Dallas and Houston areas and three separate networks, each with its own vendors and its own bill. Helion combined the three into one. According to Helion’s case study, the group’s network spend fell from an average of $62,300 a month to $25,000, a 60% cut, while data throughput rose by a factor of more than 1,000.
Then came the part the managers noticed. With a network that could carry it, Helion put high-definition video conferencing in the conference room at every store, so a monthly finance meeting with more than 60 managers and partners no longer cost anyone half a day on the road between the two cities. People stayed in their stores. Deals kept moving.
The group’s CFO put the total at about $1 million added to the bottom line. Read the numbers yourself in the John Eagle Auto Group case study, a complimentary PDF download. Running several rooftops? See how we work with dealer groups.

“For every day that a manager is out of the store, that’s probably three or four sales or deals that don’t get done.”
Three Rules a Dallas Dealership Answers To
Texas keeps this simpler than some states do. One federal rule carries most of the weight, the state privacy law mostly steps aside for dealers that arrange financing, and the state breach law applies to anybody holding a customer file. Three rules. Here’s the short version.
| Rule | What it is | Date or deadline | At the store |
|---|---|---|---|
| FTC Safeguards Rule | Federal rule for dealers that arrange financing or leasingApplies | Amended rule in force June 9, 2023 | A written security program, a qualified individual, multi-factor authentication, encryption, testing and vendor oversight. |
| Texas Data Privacy and Security Act | Texas’s comprehensive consumer privacy lawDealership exempt | In force July 1, 2024 | Financial institutions under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act are exempt as whole entities. |
| Texas breach notification law | Business and Commerce Code, Section 521.053Applies | 60 days to notify people | Tell the Texas attorney general within 30 days when 250 or more Texans are affected. |
Why does a dealership get the entity-level pass? A store that arranges financing or leases vehicles is treated as a financial institution under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and the Texas statute exempts those outright. That’s the common reading. Ask your attorney how it fits your stores, because a group can own businesses that don’t finance anything.
None of that shrinks the federal job. The Safeguards Rule in 16 CFR 314.4 still expects a written security program, plus a notice to the FTC within 30 days when a breach touches 500 or more consumers, and Texas runs its own clock on top of that through the attorney general’s data breach reporting process. Two clocks. Our dealership compliance team keeps both in one program.

Dealership Cybersecurity in Dallas, TX
June 2024 is the month every dealer remembers. When CDK Global went down, Penske Automotive told investors in an SEC filing that the outage reached Premier Truck Group, its Dallas-based commercial truck business with 48 locations, which kept running on manual and alternate processes. Paper and patience. We said it then and still mean it. CDK wasn’t a one-time wake-up call.
Nobody at a store can stop a vendor outage. What a store can control is its own side of the wire, and that’s where our dealership cybersecurity work lives. A live, US-based security operations center watches the network day and night. Multi-factor authentication goes on email and remote access. Backups get a test restore, because a backup nobody has ever restored is only a hope.

Where We Work Across the Metroplex
Texas has 1,285 franchised new-car dealers, according to NADA Data 2025, second only to California among the states we cover. Sewell, Park Place and Berkshire Hathaway Automotive are all headquartered in this metro, and so are Premier Truck Group and Southwest International Trucks on the commercial side. We name them for scale, not as clients. Big groups. Long drives between rooftops.
Statewide, dealers are represented by the Texas Automobile Dealers Association in Austin. Helion has history here too. In March 2020 the company announced a move into a 22,000-square-foot facility in Garland for its Dallas team.
