Managed IT Services in Baltimore, Built Only for Dealerships

Search for managed IT services in Baltimore and you’ll find plenty of good companies. Most of them look after law firms, medical practices and a nonprofit or two. Fine work. Not this work. A dealership runs on a DMS, a service drive that opens before sunrise, an F&I office full of customer financial data and an automaker with its own opinions about your network.

That’s all we do. Helion Technologies has worked only with automotive and heavy truck stores since Erik Nachbahr founded the company here in 1997, and Baltimore is one of the 30 metros on our dealership IT services by location page. It’s also home.

So what does a hometown IT company look like when the hometown is full of dealerships? Maryland has 313 franchised new-car dealers, according to NADA Data 2025, and you can pass a good number of them without ever leaving the Beltway. York Road in Timonium. Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie. Route 40 through Catonsville, Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills, Belair Road on the way out toward Bel Air.

The market runs from single-point family stores to groups headquartered in Maryland, Antwerpen Auto Group and Ourisman Automotive Group among them, plus truck dealers like Baltimore Potomac Truck Centers in Linthicum Heights. We’re describing the market there, not our client list. Whether you run a car dealership or a heavy truck dealership, the IT problems rhyme.

What Baltimore Dealerships Get From Helion

Start with the phone. When a salesperson is locked out mid-deal, or the F&I printer drops off the network on a Saturday, the call reaches a live person in 82 seconds on average. No phone tree. Most tickets close remotely, which is faster for the store than waiting on anybody’s truck.

Some jobs need hands. A dead switch in the parts room. A new rooftop going live. Field dispatch, after-hours help and weekend coverage all sit inside the monthly number with managed IT support for dealerships, so nobody at the store has to stop and work out whether a visit is worth the invoice before picking up the phone.

Already have an IT person you trust? Keep them. Co-managed IT puts our team behind yours for the nights, the weekends and the projects one person can’t cover alone. And if you’re moving to Tekion, our Tekion enablement team handles the network readiness and the go-live. Still comparing providers? Our guide to choosing dealership IT support lists what to ask.

Maryland Privacy and Security Rules for Dealerships

Two governments have a say in how a Baltimore dealership protects customer data. Washington wrote the FTC Safeguards Rule. Annapolis wrote two more laws, and they don’t treat a dealership the same way. Here’s the short version. It isn’t legal advice, so run the details past your attorney.

Sources are the FTC’s Safeguards Rule guide, 16 CFR Part 314 and the Maryland General Assembly’s record of the 2024 privacy act.

Exempt Doesn’t Mean Off the Hook

Maryland’s privacy law took effect on October 1, 2025. It exempts financial institutions covered by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and that’s the category most franchised dealers land in once they arrange financing. Good news. Sort of.

The exemption moves the work. It doesn’t remove it. We wrote about why Maryland’s privacy law matters to dealers before it took effect, and the advice hasn’t changed much since, which is to build one security program strong enough that you never have to care which rulebook an examiner, a lender or an automaker happens to open first.

That’s the job of our dealership cybersecurity team and the FTC Safeguards compliance program. Want a starting point this week? Print the FTC Safeguards Rule checklist. Does Helion Technologies offer managed IT services in Baltimore?
Yes. Helion Technologies is headquartered at 3000 Falls Road in Baltimore and provides managed IT, cybersecurity and compliance support to automotive and heavy truck dealerships only. If you run a law office or a clinic, we’re the wrong call, and we’ll say so.
How quickly can we get help at a Baltimore-area store?
82 seconds is the average wait to reach a live support agent, and most problems get fixed remotely from there. When a job needs hands, like a failed switch or a new store opening, a field technician comes out, and the visit is already inside the monthly price.
Does Maryland’s privacy law apply to my dealership?
Usually not directly. The Maryland Online Data Privacy Act exempts financial institutions covered by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which is how most franchised dealers that arrange financing are treated. The FTC Safeguards Rule and Maryland’s breach notification law still apply, so ask your attorney how the exemption fits your stores.
What does dealership IT support cost in Baltimore?
It depends on your rooftops and services. Helion quotes on how many stores you run and what you need covered, and there’s no published rate card. A price quote request gets you a real number.
We already have an IT person. Can Helion work with them?
Sure, and plenty of stores do it that way. Co-managed IT keeps your in-house person in place and adds Helion’s help desk, security team and project engineers behind them, so one vacation or one sick day doesn’t leave the store uncovered.
Do you support heavy truck dealers around Baltimore?
Yes, heavy truck dealerships are half of what Helion does. The same team supports truck stores and car stores, including parts counters, service bays and the dealer management systems truck dealers run on.
Where is Helion’s Baltimore office?
3000 Falls Road, Suite 300, Baltimore, MD 21211. It’s the company’s headquarters and has been home base since 1997. Live support runs 6 a.m. to midnight Eastern, Monday through Saturday.
