Does your dealership use a web-filtering tool?

By Erik NachbahrNovember 13, 2017 · 2 min read

Web-filtering tools, A.K.A “content control software” can do a lot more than its traditional role of blocking unwanted content such as gaming, streaming and adult sites. Web-filtering has many “unseen” benefits such as blocking harmful content from your dealership. Blocking sites known for hosting dangerous content, like phishing scams, also helps to protect your business and customer data. Additionally, for allowed websites – you can also track sites visited, duration of time spent on the site among many other useful stats.

Recently, one of Helion’s clients found out that someone had tried to alter their banking information. Luckily, the bank notified the executive  that an unauthorized IP address was attempting to make changes to the account. So, what does this have to do with web-filtering? In this case, the dealership reached out to Helion for help locating some of the information. Since we manage their IT – including their web-filtering,we were able to successfully find out the IP address in question using the software. This provided the dealership with helpful information should they choose to take any further action.

If your dealership does not currently use any sort of web-filtering, you may want to consider including this in your IT budget. Not only can it help improve productivity and protect your dealership from harmful websites, but you get the added value of having insight into your web traffic.
