What Dealership IT Services in Los Angeles Have to Cover

Nobody in Los Angeles tells you how far away something is. They tell you how long it takes. A group can have one store on Van Nuys Boulevard, another down in Torrance and a third out in Ontario, and on a bad afternoon on the 405 those three might as well be in different states. Same DMS, though. Same phones, same logins, and one network that has to act as if every rooftop shared a wall.

That’s the job we do all day. Helion Technologies has worked only with automotive and heavy truck dealerships since 1997, and this page belongs to our dealership IT services by location hub. What follows is the part that’s specific to Southern California.

  • Remote firstMost tickets close by phone or remote session, so a fix never sits in traffic on the 405.
  • On site when it needs handsField technicians come out for a failed switch, a cabling job or a new rooftop going live.
  • Watched around the clockA US-based team monitors networks, servers and security alerts 24/7, all night Pacific time.

Here’s the thing people ask us about first, so we’ll get it out of the way. Our help desk is in Baltimore. That’s three hours ahead of you, and for a dealership it works out better than it sounds, because live help runs 3 a.m. to 9 p.m. Pacific, Monday through Saturday. When a parts counter in Carson unlocks at six, our people have already been at their desks for half a shift. Wide awake. Coffee long gone.

After-hours calls, weekend coverage and field dispatch all sit inside the monthly number, so nothing shows up later as its own invoice. Day to day, that’s managed IT support for dealerships. Have an IT manager you like? Groups with their own staff use co-managed IT and keep that person in charge.

We Were Walking California Dealers Through the CCPA in 2019

California is where the privacy rules started, and we were there for the start. In April 2019, eight months before the California Consumer Privacy Act took effect, Helion partnered with a statewide association of franchised new car dealers to teach its members what the law would ask of them. What had to change on the network. What had to change in the handbook. And what “reasonable measures” would mean to a regulator reading a dealership’s file after something went wrong.

Nobody knew then how it would play out. We wrote the dealer’s guide to the CCPA that year, then a CCPA preparation checklist, and when voters passed the sequel in 2020 we covered the California Privacy Rights Act too. Seven years on, the law has grown teeth.

So a Los Angeles store isn’t our first California conversation. Not close. Running several rooftops? See how one team covers all of them on our dealer groups page.

Three Rules a Los Angeles Dealership Answers To

In most states a dealership gets a pass on the state privacy law. Not here. California exempts the financing paperwork and leaves the store itself on the hook, and since January 2026 its breach law runs on a fixed 30-day clock. Three rules, then, and all three apply.

RuleWhat it isDate or deadlineAt the store
FTC Safeguards RuleFederal rule for dealers that arrange financing or leasingAppliesAmended rule in force June 9, 2023A written security program, a qualified individual, multi-factor authentication, encryption, testing and vendor oversight. Get the checklist
California Consumer Privacy ActThe CCPA, as amended by the California Privacy Rights ActData-level exemption onlyIn force since January 1, 2020Financing data held under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act is carved out. Service, marketing, website and employee records are not.
California breach notification lawCivil Code Section 1798.82Applies30 calendar days to notify peopleTell the attorney general within 15 days of that notice when more than 500 Californians are affected.

Why doesn’t the usual exemption work here? Texas, Virginia and most other states exempt a business that falls under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act as a whole entity. The California Consumer Privacy Act exempts only the information collected under that federal law, so the credit application is carved out while the service history, the website lead, the marketing list and the personnel file all stay in. And the carve-out doesn’t reach the part of the law that lets customers sue after a breach. Our guide to dealership privacy laws by state shows how far California sits from the rest.

Two newer pieces are worth a date on the calendar. Senate Bill 446 put the 30-day notice deadline into the breach law on January 1, 2026, on top of the federal Safeguards Rule and its notice to the FTC within 30 days. And the state privacy agency’s new regulations add cybersecurity audits for businesses that meet its risk thresholds, with the first certifications due April 1, 2028. Does your group meet them? Ask your attorney. Our dealership compliance team builds one written security program that answers to all three.

Dealership Cybersecurity in Los Angeles, CA

You don’t have to look far for an example. The California attorney general keeps a public list of reported data breaches, and in May 2025 two Southern California stores under common ownership filed notices there for the same incident. Someone had been inside their network from August 21 to August 30, 2024. Nine days in. The notices reached the state more than eight months after that.

Under the law as it reads today, a gap like that would be hard to defend. Thirty days isn’t long when you still have to work out which files were touched and whose names were in them, and a store that has no logs to read can’t answer either question, which is exactly why our dealership cybersecurity work starts with visibility. A live, US-based security operations center watches the network day and night. Multi-factor authentication goes on email and remote access. Backups get a real test restore. The wider picture is in the state of dealership cybersecurity. It all matters more in a state where customers can sue over a breach, and as we wrote after the big DMS outage, CDK wasn’t a one-time wake-up call.

Not sure where your stores stand today? A complimentary IT and cybersecurity assessment puts the answer in writing.

Where We Work Around Greater Los Angeles

California has 1,334 franchised new-car dealers, according to NADA Data 2025, more than any other state, and a large share of them sit in the basin between the San Fernando Valley and the Inland Empire. Galpin and Keyes both run their groups out of Van Nuys. On the truck side, Velocity Truck Centers is based in Whittier and Inland Kenworth in Montebello. We mention them for scale. With two of the country’s busiest container ports at the bottom of the 710, this is a truck town as much as a car town.

Statewide, franchised dealers are represented by the California New Car Dealers Association in Sacramento. Our help desk and security team work from Baltimore, three hours ahead of every store in the list below.

  • Los Angeles
  • Van Nuys
  • Glendale
  • Pasadena
  • Santa Monica
  • Torrance
  • Carson
  • Long Beach
  • Cerritos
  • Downey
  • West Covina
  • Ontario
  • Anaheim
  • Thousand Oaks

Don’t see your city? The list isn’t a boundary. We support automotive dealerships and heavy truck dealerships across California and nationwide. Stores in other states too? We have pages for Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Philadelphia, Washington, DC and Baltimore.

Does Helion Technologies offer dealership IT services in Los Angeles?
Yes. Helion Technologies supports automotive and heavy truck dealerships across Greater Los Angeles with managed IT, cybersecurity, Tekion support and compliance work. Most help is remote and a support agent answers in 82 seconds on average, while field technicians take the jobs that need hands.
What do managed IT services in Los Angeles cost for a dealership?
The price follows your store count and the services you pick, so there’s no published rate card. After-hours support, weekend coverage and field dispatch are inside the monthly number, which means a Saturday outage in Glendale doesn’t turn up three weeks later as its own invoice with a trip charge on it. Still comparing vendors? Our look at the best managed IT providers for dealerships is a fair place to start. A price quote request gets you a real figure.
Does the CCPA apply to car dealerships in California?
For most franchised dealerships it does. The CCPA exempts personal information collected under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, not the dealership as a business, so service records, website leads, marketing lists and employee files are still covered. The FTC Safeguards Rule applies on top of it. Whether your store meets the law’s size thresholds is a question for your attorney.
How long does a California dealership have to report a data breach?
30 calendar days from discovering the breach, under Civil Code Section 1798.82 as amended on January 1, 2026. When more than 500 California residents are notified, a copy of the notice goes to the attorney general within 15 days. The FTC has its own 30-day notice for breaches that touch 500 or more consumers.
You’re on the East Coast. How fast does a Los Angeles store reach a person?
82 seconds is the average wait to reach a live support agent. Live help runs 3 a.m. to 9 p.m. Pacific, Monday through Saturday. Monitoring never stops.
We already have an IT director. Can you work alongside them?
That’s what co-managed IT is for. Your IT director keeps the keys and the vendor relationships, and Helion adds the help desk depth, the security operations and the project hands that one person can’t stretch across several rooftops and a freeway system. Some groups start there and move to full service later. Others never do.
Do you support heavy truck dealers near the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach?
We do. Heavy truck stores have been part of Helion’s client base from the start, and they come with their own problems, like parts counters that open before sunrise and a DMS the car side has never heard of. We support Karmak and Procede shops. For the security side, read heavy truck dealership cybersecurity.
