Choosing a managed IT provider for a dealership isn’t the same decision as choosing one for a law firm or a retail chain. Dealership operations run on a DMS, get audited under FTC Safeguards, and can’t afford downtime during a sales event or a service rush. That means the providers who actually understand this industry look different from a general “best MSP” list.
How we ranked
We built this list using three criteria that matter specifically for dealerships, not generic company metrics:
- Dealership-specific tenure. Not just years in business, years spent exclusively serving automotive or heavy truck dealerships. A company with 30 years in general IT and 2 years in dealerships has less relevant depth than one with 15 years doing nothing else.
- Customer satisfaction, based on public Google reviews. Rating and review volume, pulled directly from each company’s own Google Business Profile where one exists.
- Industry depth. DMS platform certifications, whether automotive is the core business or one vertical among several, and whether heavy truck dealerships are covered at all, since most providers in this space don’t mention that segment.
All data below reflects publicly available information gathered from the internet on September 12, 2026. We’re a competitor to several companies on this list, so we’re ranked here too, and we’ve disclosed exactly how.

1. Helion Technologies
4.9 242 Google reviews
Helion has worked exclusively with automotive and heavy truck dealerships since 1997, serving over 2,000 dealerships nationwide. Public Google reviews show a 4.9 rating across 242 reviews. Helion is a Tekion Certified Partner and one of the only providers on this list that names heavy truck dealerships as a dedicated coverage area, not an afterthought.
Why they’re on this list: Longest dealership-exclusive tenure in the set, the only provider naming heavy truck as a dedicated vertical, and the only Tekion Certified Partner in the group. 98% client retention rate and an 82-second average response time are the only quantified speed and retention claims in the competitive set. Helion is also the only provider on this list offering a dedicated Managed AI service — a private, governed AI workspace for dealerships, built into the same team managing IT, cybersecurity, and compliance.
2. VTech Dealer IT
~5.0 237 Google reviews
VTech has worked exclusively in automotive dealership IT since 2011. The company publicly states a 95% dealer-to-dealer referral rate and a strategic data/AI partnership with Axel Automotive. Public Google reviews put the company at roughly a 5.0 rating across 237 reviews.
Why they’re on this list: Highest publicly stated referral rate in the category (95% dealer-to-dealer), and the only provider in the set running a dedicated ongoing content program in the form of a weekly dealership technology podcast, which gives them sustained search and AI citation presence no other provider in this set matches.
3. Proton Dealership IT
No Google profile found
Proton positions itself around dealership cybersecurity and compliance, backed by a 24/7 security operations center, and was acquired by Reynolds & Reynolds in 2022. We were unable to locate a Google Business Profile publicly listed under Proton’s name at the time of this review.
Why they’re on this list: Security and compliance-first positioning backed by a 24/7 SOC, with distribution reach through Reynolds & Reynolds’ existing DMS customer base that no independent provider in this set can match.
4. OWL Automotive Consulting
No Google profile found
OWL was founded by three former Penske Automotive employees and offers a broader scope than most providers on this list, including DMS conversion, M&A support, and fractional CFO consulting for dealership groups. We were unable to locate a Google Business Profile publicly listed under OWL’s name at the time of this review.
Why they’re on this list: Broadest service scope in the set, covering DMS conversion, M&A support, and fractional CFO consulting alongside IT. Founded by Penske veterans, which gives them operational credibility inside the dealership group world that most pure-IT providers don’t have.
5. COMNEXIA
5.0 8 Google reviews
COMNEXIA is the oldest company on this list, but automotive is one of five verticals the company serves, and its service area is regional (Atlanta metro) rather than national. Public Google reviews show a 5.0 rating across 8 reviews.
Why they’re on this list: Longest operating history in the set at 35 years, though automotive isn’t the exclusive focus and coverage doesn’t extend nationally.
6. Buchanan Technologies
5.0 12 Google reviews
Buchanan is a large, established IT services provider (roughly 850 employees, backed by Lightview Capital) serving industries including healthcare, education, manufacturing, and automotive. The company’s Grapevine headquarters location shows a 5.0 rating across 12 Google reviews, though this reflects a single office rather than the company’s full client base.
Why they’re on this list: Largest headcount of any provider in the set at roughly 850 employees, with private equity backing and multi-industry scale. Automotive is one of several industries served rather than a dedicated vertical, so dealership-specific depth is less established than providers who focus exclusively on this segment.
7. Meriplex
4.8 64 Google reviews
Meriplex maintains a dedicated page for automotive dealership IT services alongside its broader managed IT business. The company’s Houston headquarters shows a 4.8 rating across 64 Google reviews.
Why they’re on this list: One of the larger managed IT providers with a dedicated automotive dealership practice, giving them more dealership-specific focus than a pure generalist MSP. The broader business serves multiple industries, so dealership work sits alongside other verticals rather than as the sole focus.
8. Ntiva
4.7 15 Google reviews
Ntiva is a private equity-backed company (Southfield Capital) built through a series of acquisitions of regional MSPs. In September 2025, Ntiva acquired Site Tech Services and now has a dedicated Market President for Automotive Dealerships, making this the newest automotive-specific practice on this list. Ntiva’s McLean headquarters shows a 4.7 rating across 15 Google reviews, reflecting one location within a larger national company.
Why they’re on this list: Newest automotive-specific practice in the set, added through acquisition in September 2025. PE-backed roll-up structure gives them geographic reach, but dealership-specific tenure is measured in months rather than years at this point.
Questions Worth Asking Any Provider on This List
However this list is used, these are worth asking directly before signing with any provider, including us:
- How many dealerships do you currently support, specifically? A vague answer usually means dealership IT isn’t the core focus.
- Which DMS platforms have you actually implemented? Tekion, CDK, and Reynolds all work differently, and real experience with each looks different from a general familiarity claim.
- Can I find your business and reviews on Google? Two providers on this list didn’t have a publicly discoverable Google Business Profile as of this review.
- Do you cover heavy truck dealerships, or only automotive? Most providers in this space don’t address that segment at all.
