What Dealership IT Services in Philadelphia Have to Cover
Stand on a lot in Northeast Philadelphia and you can be in New Jersey in fifteen minutes and in Delaware inside an hour. Customers cross those bridges all day. So do dealer groups, which is why a single owner here often ends up with a store in Bucks County, another in Cherry Hill and a third outside Wilmington, all sharing one DMS and one phone system. Three states. One network.
That’s the job we do. Helion Technologies has worked only with automotive and heavy truck dealerships since 1997, and this page sits under our dealership IT services by location hub. It covers what’s specific to the Philadelphia area.
- Remote firstMost tickets close by phone or remote session, so nobody waits on the Schuylkill Expressway.
- On site when it needs handsField technicians come out for a dead switch, new cabling or a rooftop going live.
- Watched around the clockNetworks, servers and security alerts are monitored 24/7 by a US-based team.
We aren’t new to the area. A multi-rooftop dealer group in the Philadelphia suburbs already runs on Helion, and its stores call the same help desk yours would. Live help runs 6 a.m. to midnight Eastern, Monday through Saturday, so the service advisor opening the drive at 7 on a Saturday in King of Prussia gets a person and not a voicemail box.

Managed IT Services for Philadelphia Dealers, or Backup for the IT Person You Have
Most stores around here fall into one of two camps. Some have no IT staff at all and want one team to own everything. Others have a capable IT manager who has been buried since the last acquisition. Either works.
For the first camp, managed IT support for dealerships puts the help desk, monitoring, patching, backups and field dispatch under one monthly number, and after-hours calls and weekend coverage sit inside that number instead of coming back three weeks later as separate invoices. No meter running. For the second, co-managed IT leaves your person in charge and puts a dealership-only bench behind them. Vacations get covered. So do the 2 a.m. alerts.

The Team Behind Every Philadelphia Ticket
One Metro, Three State Privacy Rulebooks
The FTC Safeguards Rule covers every dealer that arranges financing or leasing, on either bank of the Delaware. That part never moves. What changes at the state line is the privacy law stacked on top of it, and one of the three rows below is about to change again.
| Jurisdiction | Comprehensive privacy law | In force | At the store |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pennsylvania | No comprehensive consumer privacy law. House Bill 78 is pending in the SenateNo state law | None yet | The FTC Safeguards Rule and the state breach notification law are the standards to meet. |
| New Jersey | New Jersey Data Privacy Act (NJDPA)Dealership exempt | January 15, 2025 | Financial institutions under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act are exempt as whole entities. |
| Delaware | Delaware Personal Data Privacy Act (DPDPA)Changes in 2027 | January 1, 2025 | The whole-entity exemption narrows to banks, credit unions and insurers on January 1, 2027. |
Delaware is the row to watch. When the law took effect, any business covered by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act was exempt as a whole, and a dealership that arranges financing counted. House Bill 380 rewrites that. Starting January 1, 2027, the whole-entity pass goes only to named types of financial institutions, and the law firm Morgan Lewis, in its October 2026 summary of the amendment, tells every other business covered by that federal law to check whether it’s still exempt. The same bill drops the coverage threshold from 35,000 Delaware consumers to 10,000. Data already regulated under the federal law stays out. Ask your attorney how your Delaware stores land. Maryland went through its own version of this in 2025, and we covered it in why Maryland’s data privacy law matters for dealers everywhere.
Pennsylvania is quieter, for now. House Bill 78 passed the state House 127 to 76 in October 2025 and reached second consideration in the Senate in June 2026, and it hadn’t become law when this page was last updated. What a Pennsylvania store does answer to is the state’s Breach of Personal Information Notification Act. Since September 26, 2024, a breach touching more than 500 Pennsylvania residents means notifying the attorney general at the same time as the customers, and 12 months of credit monitoring when Social Security, bank account or driver’s license numbers were exposed, according to BakerHostetler’s 2024 review of the amendment.
None of this shrinks the federal job. The Safeguards Rule still expects a written security program, plus a notice to the FTC within 30 days when a breach reaches 500 or more consumers. Our FTC Safeguards Rule checklist walks through it line by line. The rule itself, 16 CFR 314.4, is a short read. Our dealership compliance team keeps one program that holds up in all three states.

Dealership Cybersecurity in Philadelphia, PA
This one is close to home. Two dealerships in the Philadelphia suburbs have filed ransomware notices with state attorneys general since 2025. A store in lower Bucks County found an intruder on its network in late February 2025, and by the time the review of the stolen files wrapped up in June 2026 it had 5,450 people to notify. A second store, in Chester County, spotted unusual activity that November and sent letters to 1,909 people the following May. Neither is a big operation. Both made the list. After the 2024 outage at CDK Global we wrote that CDK wasn’t a one-time wake-up call. It wasn’t.
Nobody can promise a store won’t be next. What a store can control is how early an intruder gets caught and how fast the systems come back, and that’s where our dealership cybersecurity work lives. A live, US-based security operations center watches the network day and night. Multi-factor authentication goes on email and remote access. Backups get a test restore, because a backup nobody has ever restored is only a hope. It’s the same reason dealerships are rethinking in-house cybersecurity.

Where We Work Around Philadelphia
Pennsylvania has 861 franchised new-car dealers, New Jersey has 472 and Delaware has 53, according to NADA Data 2025. A good share of them sit within an hour of City Hall, strung along Roosevelt Boulevard, Route 1, the Main Line and the Black Horse Pike. Several large dealer groups are headquartered in these suburbs, and the heavy truck dealers line up along the Turnpike and I-95. Long days. Early parts counters.
Dealers here are well represented. The Pennsylvania Automotive Association speaks for new-car and truck dealers statewide from Harrisburg, and across the river the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers, NJ CAR, does the same from Trenton.
