That’s why Helion is excited to announce that three of our team members have received their Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification.
What is CISSP?
CISSP is an independent information security certification granted to top level security experts by the International Information System Security Certification Consortium, also known as (ISC)². Certification involves a six hour examination consisting of 250 questions that test technicians in ten different categories. CISSP is considered a gold standard for security professionals, and it has become a requirement for many top level infosec roles (including Information Assurance Technical (IAT) and Managerial (IAM) roles at the U.S. Department of Defense.)
In order to become certified, technicians need five or more years of full-time, paid work as a security analyst. That work needs to be focused in two or more of the eight domains covered in the CISSP. In addition, applicants need to secure the endorsement of an existing CISSP member to verify their background experience, education, and professional reputation.
Why is CISSP important?
The CISSP curriculum covers relevant subject matter for information security professionals worldwide, called the common body of knowledge (CBK) by (ISC)². The CBK establishes a common framework of information security terms and knowledge that allows security professionals to collaborate.
By building a standard for all information pros, CISSP certified technicians are able to collectively discuss, analyze, and resolve security matters. In its current incarnation, the CISSP curriculum covers topics related to asset security, risk management, cryptography, communication and network security, and identity and access management (IAM).
When undertaking a formal security review or audit, a CISSP-led process gives technicians the technical toolkit to work with a higher degree of integrity and reliability. This can reduce expenses related to re-inspection, follow up, and over-scope requests.
