Another world-wide ransomware attack was released in late June called “NotPetya”.
This virus is essentially an advanced version of the “WannaCry” virus that hit several weeks ago. The malware infects after a user clicks on a link and then blocks access to your computer’s data and demands payment to gain access again.
How does this affect me?
The good news is Helion clients already have protection in place because of a patch we previously installed to protect against vulnerabilities. This patch will prevent a virus like “NotPetya” from spreading from PC to PC. Helion uses Webroot antivirus software to block malicious threats, however, it may not protect against individual PCs being infected with new and unknown viruses.
What should I do?
The only way to prevent an infection is by never clicking on unknown links or attachments. This includes items found within your email or even on social media sites.
We recommend that you delete unknown or suspicious emails and never pay the requested ransom. You can always reach out to Helion’s Help Desk for further assistance.
